Fish Infestation? In my Home!?
Silverfish are not fish. When I first heard the term ‘silverfish’ and realized what they were I also realized that they were the same little insects that I have seen in my past homes. They were the same little insects that I could not identify but I knew they were creepy and gross.
So, what are silverfish?
Silverfish are tiny insects that can cause great infestation in homes. These very small insects come in the shape of a teardrop and usually white or greyish in colour. Their length varies from 12-19 mm and they have three long bristles on the rear of their bodies.

How Do I Know If They Are In My Home?
It can be difficult to know for sure whether or not you have pests in your home. So, we want you to know some helpful tips on identifying whether or not you may have a silverfish infestation in your home.
Silverfish can live in many sorts of climates and temperatures but they prefer to live in dark and damp areas. Common places to look for them or find them is in the basement, attic, kitchen, and bathroom. Silverfish tend to be attracted to paper and damp clothing.
Remember when I said I found them in my old house but did not know what kind of insect they were? Well, they were silverfish, and they had eaten small holes through my clothes that were in my closet.
Other than seeing them in your home in the areas that I have specified, you can also identify a problem if you notice clothing with tiny holes, wallpaper chewed through, books with tiny holes, etc. You may also find them around moist and dark areas with food. It is important to keep a clean and organized home so that you do not attract silverfish.
How Bad Are They?
Bad. These little creatures can create many problems in your home. Other than eating through clothing, these pests can contaminate food because of their droppings, and have been found in unopened food packages. They also can cause property damage due to eating through materials.
It is also possible that these little guys can inflict a bite on humans but that is debatable. Some people have claimed that they have indeed been bitten, and others say it’s impossible.
